The match was a draw, yet she won our hearts when Ria Ramnarine bravely boxed the entire ten rounds with the reigning WBA and WBC Minimum Weight champion, Etsuko Tada of Japan. Thus the event’s after party at Sweet Lime restaurant on Saturday night was appropriately jovial.
Red was the colour of the night, when restaurant patrons decked primarily in MaPau T-shirts filled the seats of the open air dining area after 12am Sunday morning. But the party celebrations really kicked off when the Laventille Rhythm Section arrived almost at 1 am and invaded the pavement in front of the restaurant to perform a very lively half hour set which immediately drew scores of passers-by to the front of Sweet Lime.
The heavy beats filled the Avenue with infectious sounds that had the crowds and Sweet Lime staff shaking a little hip to the action.
After a short break where members of the band mingled at the bar, they returned with a second wind to drum up an exciting conclusion to the evening.
