Amidst the low key bustle of a Tuesday night on the avenue, the sounds of sweet voices emanate surprisingly from Karaoke Night at Sweet Lime.
What was once often reserved for the tone deaf and shameless, Karaoke Night at Sweet Lime seemed closer to a concert with a none too shabby range of vocalists.
Karaoke Night kicked off at 8:00pm when the M.C. (and sometimes singer) Lennox Sutherland warmed up the microphone for a number of acts which included Sweet Lime performer, Jennley Williams and her two daughters and a powerful new talent named Sherlana Sam, who is just one discovery away from a recording contract.
There was a wide variety of personal choices for the evening, but many of the songs grooved closer to the smooth, the classic or the love mood. Guests were treated to beautiful renditions of When a Man Loves a Woman, The Greatest Love of All, Hey Jude, The Power of Love, Margaritaville, and Killing Me Softly by two talented MaPau staff members.
A couple celebrated their 25th Anniversary at Sweet Lime where they were seated in a private corner of the restaurant and doted upon with a gift of complimentary wine, dessert and song dedicated to them by Jennley.
However, one of the highlights for the evening was the celebration of Sweet Lime manager, Nicole Shaw-Mitchell’s birthday. The birthday girl performed Whitney Houston’s “I wanna dance with somebody” with a chorus of Sweet Lime staffers including the chef.
The Karaoke evening went well beyond its 11:00pm ending time. Patrons stayed for hours to enjoy the good music and festive atmosphere with many guests and passers-by taking the party onto the pavement.
